The stress of starting the new school year with uncertainty impacts students and teachers emotionally. In this time of social unrest, a national health crisis, and distance learning, we need to support our students in different ways. As educators, we must ​all build upon our skills to express our emotions and build relationships so we and our students become even more resilient.

Join two nationally recognized leaders on how to create an effective elementary SEL program. Mrs. Rocheleau, CASEL expert and secondary principal for Glen Lake Community School District, will describe how she has implemented an award-winning SEL program. Dr. Hasenyager will then share how he has led work to integrate the CASEL competencies into a literacy-based SEL curriculum with specific grade-appropriate strategies.

The gatherEd 2018 Fall Reception is an invitation only event to be held at the Bronx Brewery on Thursday, October 4th from 4:30pm to 7:30pm.

Join Principals and Administrators from across New York City to enjoy drinks and hors d'oevres as you learn more about the new instructional programs being offered by our vendor partners. Exclusive offers and discounts will be available to those that attend. LIASCD is delighted to offer Long Island educators the opportunity to spend a full day with Dr. Doug Fisher where he will provide the tools educators need to apply Dr. John Hattie’s head turning synthesis of more than 15 years of research. Dr. Fisher will discuss how to use the right approach at the right time, so that you can more intentionally design classroom experiences. He will identify which routines are most effective at specific phases of learning and discuss why the eight mind frames for teachers apply so well to curriculum planning.

Surf for All April Fundraiser

Surf For All’s roots originated in 2002 with the development of a surf program for developmentally disabled teenagers. Over the years we expanded our outings to cover a broader spectrum of disabilities–from Autism, Cerebral Palsy, global developmental delays, visual impairment and others. We work closely with the Long Beach School District and provide weekly lessons at no cost for students ages five to twenty during the summer special education program. We have also expanded and work closely with Wounded Warriors, providing lessons and support for our military heroes and their families. We also provide programs for the economically disadvantaged. Our work has been featured on network television, major newspapers, radio, social media and elsewhere. Our message is always the same: We get just as much enjoyment out of the program as our students. Some of our students cannot walk, cannot speak, cannot see but they demonstrate shared humanity because when they get in the water they have a sense of independence and freedom that often cannot be demonstrated in other more traditional settings.
